By the time I got there,
the walkways, built
to accommodate
milk floats for the daily
pinta, were no longer
served by the Express
or Unigate. The Presto
was cheaper and the new
lighting hung too low
causing the floats
to crack and break
the plastic housings’.
Betty on Edith Walk
bought garden furniture
and left it out
for the oldies like her
to rest and watch
the traffic jams
along Infirmary Road
after shopping trips
for cheaper milk;
more costly on their
shaking limbs than
tight purse strings.
