It’s Pissing Down On Rockall

Since I made the decision to take some time out from my PhD, I’ve not really felt much like writing. I’ve read a lot, but the stress of my recent illnesses and with covid preventing the travel needed to complete the creative aspect of my work, I sort of lost the plot a bit. So… time out, regroup… come back stronger.

The thing is, even though I’m not really writing at the moment, the creative brain demands release! I’ve done a few collage-y things, the above being my favourite example. The words are culled from the #Rockall twitter feed and obviously the grey image is adapted from a photo of Rockall island.

I love looking at the twitter feed, partly because it’s Shipping Forecast related and partly because feels like an earthbound Mars Probe… ‘A rusting robot sitting on one of the most godforsaken places on earth’ still manages to sound friendly, human and appallingly lonely. To me, the bleakness of ‘My battery is low and it’s getting dark’ has been replaced by the resigned ‘It’s pissing down on #Rockall.’

Anyway. I’m making a poster of this for my wall.
