Rockall Sketches

rockall-3[2]

1.

Storm flirting kittywakes
plummet as waves dance
a reckless saltarello

around the bluff islet.
Luttering brine and summer
squalls engulf.

2.

Hasslewood hides – tooth
rotten in the gum. It bites
the Brigantine Helen and drags
her to the cold coral reef.
She weeps as Norge repeats

her mistake; following
magnetic lines, with no
latitude; the promise of
a brand-new world
dashed on the rocks.

3.
The flag – wind twitched

and angry – reclaimed

for the nation of Waveland.
