In the 1980’s and 90’s, I lived in a much derided Brutalist Housing Estate in Sheffiled. Mostly seen as an eye and beleived to be full of wasters and criminals, Kelvin Flats provided the majority of the residents with a warm and welcoming community. Since its demolition, I’ve yet to find such a strong, cohesive community. Was it really all that bad?

Tales From the Urban Prairie is a selection of stories, histories, poems, reportage, recollections and urban legends all of which originates from the flats themselves or the slum area that was cleared to make way for the ‘pioneers’ who would live in the ‘Streets In The Sky.’
